A Groundheat system is also known as a Geothermal or Geoexchanging system. This is a system that uses the ground as a source of energy for heating and also using the same ground as a discharge of heat energy for cooling.
With water running through a series of plastic pipes in the ground, this system is utilized as an exchanger to extract the heat energy in the heating season or reject the heat in the cooling season.
Equipment such as the water-to-air or water-to-water heat pumps are located inside the building structure while plastic piping or wells are situated outside of it.
Buildings may be as small as 600 square feet (60 square meters) and as large as 600 000 square feet (60 000 square meters).
The system has been useful for homes, office buildings, schools (elementary through to university), churches, ice rinks, auditoriums, community centers, nurseries, etc |
